Fernando José Mateus da Silva is an Associate Professor in the Informatics Engineering Department, at School of Technology and Management of the Polytechnic University of Leiria (Portugal), where he is currently serving as Vice-Dean. He is a researcher and member of the Scientific Committee of the Computer Science and Communication Research Centre - CIIC, at Polytechnic University of Leiria, where he has served as member of the Board of the CIIC for eight years. He received his PhD degree in IT Technologies, from Universidad de Extremadura (Spain), in 2011 and his BSc degree in Computer Science Engineering from Polytechnic University of Leiria (Portugal) in 2004. Outside the education system, has worked as a software developer at Volkswagen Autoeuropa (Portugal). He has published more than 40 papers in conference proceedings and journals, in the area of Computer Science, and collaborates as a researcher in several projects. His major research interests include Artificial Intelligence, Evolutionary Algorithms, Optimization, Data Mining, Internet of Things, Ambient Assisted Living and Bioinformatics.
